Parkway Swim Club Continues to Climb the Mountain of DOING BIG THINGS!

At the risk of sounding like a bit of a broken record from previous write-ups… Wow!  What a truly fantastic weekend of swimming at the 2012 Ozark Long Course Championships!  When the coaching staff adopted the team motto of “doing big things”, not even we could imagine just how big those things would be.  All year long there have been significant accomplishments- no matter how big or small.  The 2012 Ozark LC Champs did not disappoint in this regard either! 

As a TEAM we finished second.  But the final point standings are only part of the story.  Going into the meet, we knew we were in for a real fight and it was going to take everything we had to chip away at what looked like a huge mountain to climb.  As Coach Chuck said to the TEAM on Day 1, “I love an underdog.  I love being in a spot where no one thinks we can do it.  Because when we do step up and swim bigger than we ever have and turn heads in the process, by the end of the meet, EVERYONE will know who Parkway Swim Club is!”  And swim big is exactly what we did.  Carbondale was hot, but it wasn’t just the temperature.  Time seemed to melt off our TEAM- Swimmers going from BB to A times and in some cases leapfrogging to AA times, several AAA times and therefore new Zone time standards, and new Championship levels achieved.

Every single TEAM Member stepped up.  The coaching staff demanded this of our TEAM.  If you’re seeded 20^th, get in the top 16.  If you’re 10^th, get into the top 8.  If you’re 30^th, get into the Top 20.   Kids moved up the ladder, getting into finals and scoring points and being the surprise in most events!  Relays didn’t disappoint either!  Swimmers were constantly digging down deep, having the race of their lives… all for the sake of the TEAM!  Didn’t we say we love an underdog?!

But still, this is only part of the story.  When you looked around the pool deck, every Parkway swimmer and coach was on their feet.  Every TEAM member was yelling ‘til it hurt.  Everyone united under one Parkway flag, bleeding our colors of red, white and blue.  Once again, we proved we are the ONLY TRUE TEAM.

In a sport where success is measured in tenths and hundredths of a second… WE know it is only a matter of time before OUR TEAM is sitting on top of the mountain!
